VictimsFirst Disburses $72,960 in Designated Funds to Fordyce Families of Deceased and Those Wounded and another $4,754.50 in Emergency, Immediate Financial Needs

Writer: VictimsFirstVictimsFirst

On July 23, 2024, VictimsFirst disbursed $72,960 to the families of the victims and those wounded by gunshot in The Mad Butcher grocery store mass shooting in Fordyce, Arkansas on June 21, 2024.

Four people were murdered: Ellen Shrum, Shirley Kay Taylor, Callie Weems, and Roy Sturgis.

Eight others were wounded by gunfire.

This is not reimbursement for economic loss but simply recognizes victims' trauma and non-economic pain and suffering.

The fundraising push was the brainchild of Dallas County, Arkansas Sheriff Mike Knoedl who asked donors to help those most directly impacted by the tragedy while they struggled to stand again.

Generous people willingly gave to help with immediate needs. Our mass violence families across this nation appreciate Sheriff Knoedl for his kindness and compassion shown to our new, unfortunate Fordyce mass shooting family.

In addition, as of July 30th, we have also distributed $4,754.50 to help Fordyce victims' families and survivors with immediate, emergency financial needs, bringing the total disbursed to $77,714.50.

We have also provided many other resources to victims of this small, rural town.

To help all the survivors who were part of the victim base, we have also joined together with the Arkansas Community Foundation to help fundraise for the Fordyce Survivors Fund. That Fund will be distributed by the Mass Violence Survivors Fund, led by America’s leading expert Jeff Dion.

100% of what is collected in the Fordyce Survivors Fund will go directly to the victims and survivors of the shooting.
